Broc 4S - Broccoli For Miles

Broccoli For Miles And Miles And Miles And Miles And Miles … Oh Yeah!

I was quite intrigued with this song the first time I heard it. It was the German version so I did not understand a word of it. But I loved the the woman’s voice and the song flowed nicely. When I heard the English version, thereby, for the first time understanding the lyrics I thought it was even cooler. A very effective anti-military complex song that successfully avoids the pitfall of sounding too sappy.

7 Seconds vs. Goldfinger

7 Seconds:

Goldfinger:

Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. Only one cover tune will live to play another day and it is your solemn responsibility to decide which one prevails. So tell me … Which Side Are You On?!!?

Also, keep in mind that if you should spontaneously self-actualize while playing a cover then you could – and probably should – nominate it for Top 10 (i.e. “Impeccable”) consideration.

Golfinger! Big wall of sound and used some of the German lyrics! Awesome!

I really like this song and both covers are great. I’ve probably heard 7 Seconds’ version 100 times and it still sounds fresh. After one listen to each I was inclined to go with my old familiar friend. But upon 72 further reviews I’ve got to give it to Goldfinger by a megaton.

Hi Rich, Was it just me, or did anyone else have trouble hearing the music? No sound – and no – my mute button wasn’t on. Amelia

I’m able to listen to it on my computer and have not heard complaints from anyone else. I know that Cousin Kris & Sebastian were able to listen to it today. Maybe you had a bad connection. Also you can always click on the YouTube logo in the bottom right-hand corner of each music screen, which will play the video/music straight from their site.

Richie, you put the 7 Seconds version on some mix tape for me. Cassettes, remember them, or the dreaded 8-Track with the “KA-CHUNK” as it changed tracks in the middle of a song. FUCK. I hated those things.

At first I was surprised and disappointed that Goldfinger trumped large here. I have always loved 7 Seconds version and hadn’t heard it since I listened to cassettes. It stands up but can’t sound sonically as good as Goldfinger. It was recorded before CDs by guys with no money who travelled in a sweaty beat up van and slept on fan’s couches. I listened to Goldfinger a second time and came away impressed. They switch from genre influences well with metal riffs, ska, punk, reggae, country, prof, emo…..oh, never mind had the stereo going in the next room.

  6. Pete Black says:

Uh, meant to say prog, not prof, in the previous post. Prof being the somewhat obscure style of overtly scholarly rock riddled by questions and concerned with tweed jackets, male pattern balding and lusting after 19 year olds.
