Got home around midnight tonight after seeing The Waterboys (Amazing Show). I had not heard about Lou Reed’s exit until Mike Scott talked about his admiration for the man before launching into an obviously, hastily put-together tribute of VU songs, the rawness of which only served to endear. Anyway, I thought I had tomorrow’s blog “covered” before leaving for the show but now find myself putting together a late-night replacement Lou Reed blog. I don’t want to sound like a whiner but I do wish revered musicians would give me a day or two notice before checking out. It would sure make it a lot easier on an old, tired blogger …

This one is a tossup. The Nick Cave version exceeded my expectations. If I had never heard of either of these artists, I would probably have to listen to each a second time and make an agonizing decision. But who needs that kind of stress and anguish? Is it okay if I vote for June Tabor on the grounds that I like her other work more than Cave’s?
Wow, this one was tough. Both versions are so different. It’s like asking which band is better, the Beatles or the Archies. Granted, some folks might give a slight edge to the Beatles, but still…when you hear a really excellent Archies song, you start to realize that in some ways, it’s better than the Beatles.
Okay, perhaps that is not the best example.

Sheesh, this one is close. Tie goes to the runner but who exactly was running? And should the possible obstruction to the runner at third play into it, you know, considering this is just an analogy? I guess I’ll adhere to the infamous “Kerry Black Rule”, which in the present case results in a vote for the Caveman.
I would have voted for the photos of Nick Cave. He looks more interesting in black and white. And The Ig appeared gaining Cave a bonus point but still he loses this game 23-17.
