Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. Only one cover tune will live to play another day and it is your solemn responsibility to decide which one prevails. So tell me … Which Side Are You On?!!?
Also, keep in mind that if you should spontaneously self-actualize while playing a cover then you could – and probably should – nominate it for Top 10 (i.e. “Impeccable”) consideration.

Reel Big Fish is great. They’ve done a slew of covers and they’re all good to great. Usually they have fun with their cover material but they obviously respect TP & HBs. Quite a reverent and superb cover. But unfortunately they were lade with an unwinnable draw. Johnny’s version is absolutely amazing, evoking so many layers of emotion with simply his voice and an acoustic guitar. All of Johnny’s American Recording albums are great but my favorite is III, in which this cover leads off.
Reel Big Fish did a nice sounding version musically but given the lyrics to this song, when John R. Cash tells me that he’ll stand his ground,I BELIEVE him. Iggy and Johnny always tell you the truth. And Steve Earle but sometimes he forgets. Willie Nelson can’t find his car keys right now.
An old Kelly Hogan joke:
What’s the worst thing you could hear while giving Willie Nelson a blow job?
… Honey, I’m not Willie Nelson …
Pete, your words are gospel, invoking sage-wisdom, comfort and tranquility; even if for only a little while …
Totally agree: Two more completely different, yet superb covers
