Gadzooks this is a much covered song. Bands of every genre – rock, reggae, punk, ska, surf, flamenco, bluegrass, etc. – seem to gravitate to this tune. And interestingly enough, although I never cared for the original, I’ve enjoyed pretty much every cover I’ve heard. Go figure …

Edi Fitzroy:
Ska DaddyZ with Chencha Berrinches:
Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. Only one cover tune will live to play another day and it is your solemn responsibility to decide which one prevails. So tell me … Which Side Are You On?!!?
Also, keep in mind that if you should spontaneously self-actualize while playing a cover then you could – and probably should – nominate it for Top 10 (i.e. “Impeccable”) consideration.

Someone on YouTube has informed me that the above song is not by NoFX. According to my source it was NoFX but my source admittedly is not necessarily very accurate. I’ve asked the YT whistle-blower if he knows who it is but, as of yet, have not heard anything back from him. Anyone who can confirm that it is NoFX or, if not then who it actually is will win a free one-year subscription to Cover Me Impressed!
While I really like Edi Fitzroy’s take on Hotel California, NoFX (or whoever the hell the linked band might be) get my vote. That is a great cover!
However, Cuspid pointed me to a cover of Hotel California that is exceptional beyond mere words. It really must be seen and heard to fully appreciate its magnificence. And believe me it will be seen, as well as heard, on CMI sometime in the near future. (In the business they call this a “teaser”; so consider yourself teased.)
I hate this song. I hate all versions of it.
C’mon Arnie, you seriously cannot enjoy these reggae and ska/punk versions of the song? I find them both immensely entertaining.
“Hotel California” might not be my least favorite song, but it has to be among the finalists.
I liked all versions of this song. The reggae version was my favorite. The punk/ska version handled all the changes well and was entertaining. I get all the hating and the backlash that has been thrown at certain bands and styles of music which were popular or detested when we were forming our core opinions but i would like to challenge people to hear songs afresh, without baggage and hear them as if you’d never heard them before.
