Mark Eitzel:
The Jam:
Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. Only one cover tune will live to play another day and it is your solemn responsibility to decide which one prevails. So tell me … Which Side Are You On?!!?
Also, keep in mind that if you should spontaneously self-actualize while playing a cover then you could – and probably should – nominate it for Top 10 (i.e. “Impeccable”) consideration.

Tough call between two well-performed replicas of the original. I’m going to give it to The Jam simply because they are The Jam (call it “The Jam” preference and file it right next to the perturbing “Jordan Rules” of yesteryear).
I love The Jam, but not this kinda Jam. They shoulda stuck with “In the City” and “The Modern World” and left this kind of music to bands better suited to it.
Agreed, Plotty, both Eitzel and The Jam do an excellent job covering the song; the problem for me is that I do not particularly like the song.
The Jam are one of my all-time favorite bands. But I think Eitzel’s version is much better.
