It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine) appeared on R.E.M.’s 1987 album Document. It was released as a single in November 1987, reaching No. 69 on the US Billboard Hot 199 and later reaching No. 39 in the UK singles chart on its re-release in December 1991. In an interview with Guitar World magazine published in November 1996, R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck agreed that End of the World was in the tradition of Bob Dylan’s Subterranean Homesick Blues (a song notable in that RDubbs does not particularly care for it).

Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On?!!?

  1. Cuspid says:

Discount is one of the 4 best things ever to come out of the state of Florida. (The other 3 are Tom Petty, Gatorade, and Winston & Sons Furniture Makers. The Buckets o’ Blood moped gang runs a close 5th.) The Pickin’ On version is very good in its own right. But Discount always seems to really excel with the covers they choose to do, and this one is no exception. Thanks Dubs.

  2. RDubbs says:

I didn’t realize Discount was out of FL. Kudos to anyone that get’s itself out of Florida. Discount receives bonus points for having put out an EP of solely William Q Boast-A-Lot covers. Hail Bragg! Hail Discount! Hail Getting Outa FL!

  3. RDubbs says:

The Pickin’ Boys version is fine to sip coffee to but I think I’d prefer quaffing beers while blasting Discount’s rollicking good-time cover.

  4. Arnold Plotnick says:

Pickin’ On Series was friggin’ auditory Ambien, whereas Discount was a vicious taser to the left testicle. Discount all the way.
