THE CLASH of Cover Tunes

Billy Bragg, The Neurotics & Attila the Stockbroker vs. Bruzckos featuring Argies vs. Stiff Little Punks

Billy Bragg, The Neurotics & Attila the Stockbroker:

Bruzckos featuring Argies:

Stiff Little Punks:

Yes, yes, a big reason I selected this cover is the very cool homage of a name!

Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On?!!?

  1. Cuspid says:

I’m going with Bruzckos. For some reason I just think this songs sounds better when sung in Spanish.

For what it’s worth, Billy Bragg has often spoken about how inspired he was by the Clash. So it’s not surprising to hear him doing one of their covers.

  2. Kerry Black says:

I liked the power and verve of Bruzckos and voted for them.

I expected the puppet show to last the duration and was shattered by the early cutoff.

  3. RDubbs says:

I’d like to thank all for playing. Everyone did a fine job but sadly there can only be one winner. And this one goes to the spirited Argentine lads!!!

  4. Arnold Plotnick says:

yeah yeah I agree with what everyone says, whatever.

  5. Pete Black says:

I am typically entering the party late. I don’t read previous comments first to have a more personal view, so I apologize if I tread familiar turf. Gotta go with Bruzckos. They nailed the feeling of the song and since I couldn’t understand the language it didn’t sound like a rote copy. Stiff Little Punks’ version was good but so faithful and the singer blew the “boots vs. suits lyrics about 50 seconds in and knew it right away as he smacked himself in the head. Bragg/Neurotics/Attila just sounded sloppy.

  6. Pete, yes the Bragg/Neurotics?Attila does sound sloppy, that Is because it was played with no rehearsal, The Neurotics, Bragg and Attila finished off the gig by all coming together in the spirit of punk and played the song from memory. It was always going to be imperfect but is well rehearsed the main criteria here? I don’t mind either way, I am surprised to find this track nominated. For me they are just happy times. Have to agree with you Steve. As I wrote to Attila this morning, unrehearsed spontaneity is a hallmark of punk music. Personally I love the “mess” Bragg, Attila and you kicked out.

  7. Cuspid says:

Thank you Pete. The prophet has spoken!

  8. Arnold Plotnick says:

    yeah yeah, what Pete said.

  9. ariel escalante says:
