Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On?!!?

Wow. Hanging around covermeimpressed can send one from one end of the delight spectrum to the other end in just a single day. Unlike yesterday’s selection, where I really didn’t care for the original or any of the covers, this time it’s the other way around. I’ve liked the original since I first heard it in 1980, and liked a lot all three covers. In a sense, all four of these are really different songs. So who to vote for? With nothing else more significant to turn to I’m going to rely on the novelty factor and go with Comunidad Nin-Jitsu. I’ll admit that the Brazilian reggae titles in my own personal music collection are few and far between, and that just the idea of Brazilian reggae makes me smile. In addition, I also learned that the way to say “Jah” in Portuguese is “Jah”, and that the English translation of the band’s name is “Buckets o’ Blood Rule!”.
Speaking of Buckets o’ Blood, I think it’s time that Montrose’s Bad Motor Scooter make an appearance on covermeimpressed. How much of a bribe does one have to pay around here to get one’s favorite song on the air?
Cuspid, I simply cannot accept requests for Sammy Hagar that are coupled to slurs of Janis Joplin.
This was one of the hardest votes thus far. I really like all three covers. And, as Zaner points out, the versions could not be more different, which makes it a foolhardy venture to choose among them. Good thing “foolhardy” is my middle name.
I learned long ago that when in doubt gravitate towards ska. That philosophy has served me well, pretty much making me the man I am today. And it doesn’t hurt that Area-7 also has a really cool album cover.
Agreed. Ska, Reggae, and Chillout. Three genres I like, and all three done well. I’ve been gravitating toward chillout music these past few years, especially those with waif-like female vocals. It really was a toss-up between Communidade and The Submarines. I went with the reggae, mon.
