Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On?!!?

The Alluring Strange version sounds like it was a 45 rpm single from the late 1950’s being played at 33 rpm. Ironically, the Eek a Mouse version sounds like a 33 rpm album being played at 45 rpm. The Bluegrass Pickin’ version is very good. And it even sounds like it’s being played at the right speed. So I’m voting for it.
Cuspid nailed it!
I like this song, and I liked all three versions. I ended up picking Alluring Strange’s version because it was alluring and strange.
As most of you know I do not care for Led Zep. Actually I have profound disdain for their work. But D’Yer Mak’er, maybe once a decade, can be a relatively tolerable experience.
I enjoyed all three versions of the song. In fact, as I finished hearing each one I decided that that was the one I’d vote for. Like a baseball team that gets the last at-bat, this tendency gave the Pickin’ crew a decided advantage. So to be fair I listened to all three versions a second time. As Cuspid alluded to, Alluring Strange’s version does sound like a 50’s jukebox hit. I like it. It’s good clean fun. Eek … well it’s difficult for me to dislike anything I hear from Eek. The guy’s signature sound simply appeals to me. But whether I listen to it first or last, The Pickin’ cadre really shine on this cover. I would not have thought a bluegrass version of Led Zep would work but work it does and very well.
Kudos and my vote to the Pickin’ boys!
I was prepared to vote for the scat vocal stylings of Eek-A-Mouse, then listened to the Pickin’ On version, which won me over.
Some readers were surprised to see a Led Zeppelin song featured. Dubbs’ profound disdain for Led Zeppelin is intense and even legendary. To this day, he steadfastly refuses to even spell their name correctly.
