Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On?!!?

I absolutely love this song, one of the best pop songs ever written/recorded. That’s Graham Nash singing the high harmony.
This was a close call. Material Issue do an extremely admirable job. But I’m going with Rockfour because the bass player is using a Hofner bass, which is easily and immediately associated with Paul McC and all the Beatles songs through 1965. By the way, for you non-Hebrew speakers, the Rockfour version doesn’t even attempt to remain true to the original lyrics. In fact, they even call their version “Cinderella”, which explains fleeing beauty in a dress and the shoe images in the video.
Three good versions. Material Issue rocks and spits out great covers like old people fart…effortlessly. Without a doubt Rockfour wins the best dressed award and having Danny Bonaduce’s long lost twin brother on guitar almost put them over the top. But The Nebulas take this one. Surf rock the way it should be.
Have to give this one to Rockfour, they give this song a deeper and more romantic quality.
Doug, I’m pleased to learn you consider this to be among the best pop songs ever made. I concur. The Hollies are on my short list of the best acts in “rock” history.
Interesting to hear the Hebrew version. Thanks for explaining the bit about Cinderella. I re-watched it, and it all makes sense now.
Tough one. The Hollies are great. All these covers are noteworthy, but I’m giving it to Material Issue. They rock out on this one. Close call.
