Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On?!!?

The cool thing about Shonen Knife is that they improve every stupid song they choose to cover. And this song is no different. Sometimes a cool 3-chord song can be written in 2 minutes. But this song ain’t one of them. It has 3 chords and it sounds like it was written in 2 minutes. But it stupid and, even worse, boring. Shonen Knife at least makes it more tolerable, They got my vote.
I can listen to Anabot and Shonen Knife’s versions all day long (okay, maybe for just about 13 hours). But you get the idea, yeah? Despite some of the best dance moves since Napoleon Dynamite, The Dandies’ cover did not particularly grab me. So it was down to two great, albeit very different, versions.
If this match-up had come along years back when I was on a Shonen Knife tear then results might have varied. However, as of late I’ve been overdosing on Anabot and so she gets my vote.
I’m goin’ with Shonen Knife, although I may be a little biased in their favor after seeing them perform a few years ago. They rocked my socks off while charming their way into my heart.
I used to flip through rock magazines during high school, and The Runaways received a tremendous amount of coverage, especially considering “Cherry Bomb” was the only song I ever knew. It wasn’t exactly a smash hit; maybe they were just trying to promote a young female band.
I love Shonen Knife. I’ve forgiven them for referring to the calico cat in their song “Catnip Dream” as a he, when everyone knows that calico cats are all female. But no matter. They nail this one, and they get my vote. I love the Dandys, but they didn’t do much for this song. Anabot’s version was definitely inspired, but still… I went with them knife girls.
