Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On?!!?

  1. Kerry Black says:

Glad to hear a perhaps lesser-known song by Marley.

I was prepared to vote for The Pietasters, and their version might be as good as any. But the final act gets extra points for using video, and that’s what helped propel them to victory.

  2. RDubbs says:

I like all three versions and as the day wore on each one was in the lead for my vote at one time or another. Ended up going with Playing for Change. I found the stripped down, extemporaneous effort heartfelt and endearing.

  3. Cuspid says:

None of these 3 covers strays too far from the original. They’re all good. Thus, all 4 version kinda sound pretty similar. I definitely like the acoustic feel of Playing for Change. But I’m going to go with The Pietasters for 2 reasons: They speed up the tempo a little bit, which I liked, and they impressed me that a group of white suburbanites from the DC-Metro area could sound so authentically Jamaican (to my ears, at least).
