Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On?!!?

The was a weird one for me. In general, I don’t think Bush is very good. But at the same time I almost always kinda enjoy their songs, whichever one I hear. So there must be something there that subconsciously appeals to me, although I’m not sure what it is. I also don’t care too much for the electronica motif, as demonstrated by Heroina. But I also kinda liked their rendition of this song. Thankfully I was saved from having to choose one of these by the players from Pickin’ On. Thanks to Dubbsy,I’ve heard several of their R.E.M. covers over the past 5 years or so, and found most to be very good. This one is no exception. Pick on!
Three very different versions of a song that I always enjoyed. I was very into Bush’s album Sixteen Stone. I loved that song “Comedown”, and “Everything Zen” and “Glycerine” were also really good. My fave on that album was “Machinehead” which was kickass. But I was very disappointed with the album after that, and then I lost interest. It was nice to hear them again on CMI. I like their cover version here and they got my vote, probably because of the vocals, which I thought were great. I did like Heroina’s version, though. It’s like Goth-tronica. Very dark and druggie. They were a close second. I usually like Pickin’ On’s versions of songs, and this version was no exception. So kudos to all three.
Yes the three versions were each quite different, which is something I actually strive to accomplish but don’t always find the right mix. And I enjoyed all three of the versions making for another difficult decision.
Despite the obnoxious preening and strutting of Gavin Rossdale and his overly-dramatic interlude in the song, the sheer power of Bush’s music earned them my vote. PS: Put a shirt on ya wanker!!!
Bush sorta sounds like Pearl Jam covering the song or at least Eddie V on vocals. After listening to Heorina’s version, I settled on Pickin’. They were a welcome relief.
I have never liked this song at all. It was the first REM Shark in the subsequent 220 meter hurdles which followed. It hurt me to choose Bush but I must admit their version sounded good. Having to watch Gavin Rossdale pretend that he is Iggy Pop fronting Nirvana instead of a double A Pearl Jam cover band was tough to endure.
