Friends-Of-the-Blog, The Black River Republic have released their 2nd album, For Distant Viewing. For us cover song aficionado’s, the album includes a version of Nina Simone’s Revolution.

BRR is a rock band from metro New York that has an eclectic, contagious sound. You may remember the band’s guitarist Bill Hafener from his breakneck-jammin’ days with cult-favorite band, The Skels.  BBR‘s excellent, energetic cover of Woody Guthrie’s Deportee appeared on CMI’s March 25, 2015 blog.

I’ve got a question for those who post comments regularly. Once you’ve posted a comment do you regularly go back to see if anyone has directly replied to it? I typically try to respond to every comment. But it recently occurred to me that I’ve never received a reply to any of my replies. Naturally my next thought was whether anyone was reading my replies and, if not, then was it worth my time and effort to reply? Understand, I’m not trying to shame readers into checking they’re posts. But I would like to get a better understanding of the reader’s tendencies and preferences. Thus, if you will then please let me know if you tend to return to posts after you’ve left a comment. I guess another point of interest would be, upon going to a post for the first time, do you usually read the comments and replies?

By the way, if would like to read replies to your comments but are not enthused over the idea of returning regularly to old posts to see if there is anything new then I’m pretty sure you can set the WordPress system to notify you when someone replies to one of your comments. Being the “administrator” I’m not sure how my menus differ from yours but, for what it is worth, I’ve got a menu called “Settings”; its submenu “Discussion” is where the e-mail settings are on my dashboard. If that is not the case for readers and you would like to know how to setup the e-mail preferences then let me know and I’ll find out.

Please reply below.

BSA: Not Dead Yet …

Blog Service Announcement

Just wanted to check in to say I am, indeed, not dead yet. Over the past week a time sensitive work project coupled with Holiday madness and family commitments rendered cover tune bloggage impossible. I think I’m pretty much caught up and plan to start posting more cover tune delectables soon.

Since being advised that the cover of Hotel California attributed to NoFX in CMI’s November 13th blog was in fact not NoFX, CMI staff have been working tirelessly through the nights (and occasionally during the days as well) to resolve this obviously very important issue. Depending on the web source, the song in question has been attributed to Me Too & The Gimme Gimmes, NoFX and Real Big Fish. Yet, despite the obstacles created by ubiquitous disinformation, our research efforts were rewarded this afternoon as we discovered that the version in question was in fact the product of Ska DaddyZ with help from Chencha Berrinches. Dr. Arnold Plotnick, a man who has dedicated his life to felines and anything/everything to do with the song Hotel California, confirmed CMI’s conclusion late today.

Thus, sleep well tonight, my friends. The pages have been forever turned on this most confounding chapter in cover music history.
