Elvira Montes is a champion. Last week, the 81-year-old grandmother competed with her family in Austin’s FloTrack “Beer Mile” World Championships, in which runners have to chug a 12-ounce beer before each of the four quarter-mile laps. Montes, who’s been running since she was 60, finished in 20:24 – 50 seconds faster than her 47-year-old daughter. Her son-in-law couldn’t even make it to the finish line. The octogenarian says she doesn’t even like beer, preferring scotch instead. “I tried to drink the first on really fast, but I couldn’t,” she said. “The second one went down really smooth; the third, even better. The fourth was all right.”

Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On?!!?
