Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On?!!?

I don’t like Tom Waits. Many friends who I respect and admire like him, and I’ve really tried to like him, but it just ain’t happenin’. I hadn’t heard the original, so I listened here and frankly, it was sheer torture. As were all three cover versions. I could stomach the Martynas for nearly the entire length of the video, so I guess they win. I feel like Lindsay Graham trying to choose between Trump and Hillary.

The Bobs knocked out a great cover. They’ve got such range and diversity even their average efforts are very good. Not that this is an average effort. Very well done. Another great acapella effort on a song that is inherently difficult to perform acapella. I like Southside Johnny’s take but it a bit overdone and too long. Would be quite nice if I were dancing cheek-to-cheek with Lizzy Caplan, dreading the inevitable end of the song (or waking up, whichever came first) but for the present listening environment too drawn out. Martynas hit a nice balance of instrumentation, spirited vocals and length. They got my vote.
